In the midst of protests to end the police killings of black people and a global pandemic. Some non-black people are asking themselves how they can help. I have listed Breonna Taylor’s and George Floyd’s fundraisers below to start. In addition to donating, there are other ways to become an ally with black people and thats by supporting them. Support is buying their products, watch their self -directed documentaries, even follow and engage on their content on social media.

My mom, Mary Davis McQuirter, is an incredible woman and I'm very grateful to be her daughter. She's my first role model for unconditional love, feminism, confidence, activism, brilliance, calmness, and patience. (Well…I'm still working on the patience!) 😆 . She decided early on that she would raise her children to be seen AND heard – unlike the custom of her childhood in South Carolina in the 1930s. . And so for her three daughters, she nurtured openness and self-expression – so I can talk to her about anything and freely share my voice with the world. . At 83 now, my mother has always been ahead of her time – she went vegan with me 33 years ago and is still going strong – and she instilled that bold foundation in my sisters and me. So mom, I love you! Thank you for being an inspiration to me, our family, and so many others along the way. Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and yours! 💖

Day one of #VeganKeto ish 🤷🏾‍♀️ 💃🏾Late Breakfast: Salad from @sprouts 💃🏾Lunch: Vegan Ramen with bean sprouts,tofu, green onions, and mushrooms( no noodles) 💃🏾Snack: Bootleg trail mix with coconut shreds, one tablespoon chocolate chips, silvered almonds, and hemp seeds. 💃🏾Dinner: @eatjust egg, @lightlifefoods bacon, spinach, and @simpletruth4u plant based sausage. my goal starting off is 50 gross carbs per day( this means im@not subtracting fiber) and day one I went over by 7. Uh! Thought I did so well until @myfitnesspal said “No sis” some things I didnt measure precisely ( like the salad and soup) so numbers may be off. ..welp here is to another day!

VEGAN MEAL PREP | Meal prep services are a great way to save time during the week and make sure you are eating balanced meals. I get a lot of questions about meal prep and I thought I'd share my favorite meal prep company in the Dallas area – @naturesplate. I've been using the weekly meal plan from Nature's Plate for over a year now and I'm always impressed with their variety and focus on whole food plant-based meals based on evidence-based nutrition. They also have many gluten-free and oil-free dishes. I love that their meals are so affordable too because many meal prep services are just too expensive. ⠀ ⠀ Pictured here are some of my favorite dishes – the BBQ tofu bowl with broccoli and mashed potatoes, the spring roll bowl with tofu and the BLT salad with tempeh bacon and housemade ranch dressing. Afro puff today. With my earrings that have a profile of an afro wearing person. Hiking. I was so excited to have so many people sign up for a book club to read my book Scars. Nearly 40 people. Thanks to the few who have already finished it and are reading it and said they really enjoyed it. I went hiking yesterday. Many of you know that I really tap into my creativity through hill running or hiking. Ideas explode in my head after I spend hours hiking or after I run up a hill from thirty minutes and getting a great sweat. I am feeling grateful and I hope everyone is doing as well as they can during these times. Thanks for your support of my creative works and I can't wait to share an excerpt of my latest novel in process soon, Seeds of Sankofa, which is an afrofuturistic novel incorporating my dissertation and masters thesis work in conjunction with 11 years of mothering and plant based food philosophies.
